The film is a retelling of the 1983 horror film of the same name, written by Don Mancini and directed by John Carpenter. Mancini and Carpenter were inspired by the long-running horror film series. Mancini wrote the script himself, which Carpenter then guided him, and one of the two picked eight people to play the eight major characters in the film — the rest of the actors are all from the "Halloween" franchise (even though it was intended to be the eighth film in the series).
In the film, a pregnant babysitter, Annie Bransford, takes care of a young boy named Andy Barclay. It is Annie's son's second birthday, and her husband is out of town. Her husband had to go on a trip because it is a business trip, which has left Annie to take care of their son. That's when she has an affair with Michael Myers, a murderer who is out for revenge, Annie's only beau. Annie convinces him to pretend to be Andy's father. The plan works, and Myers stays with Annie and Andy for a few days. When he pretends to take Andy on a walk, he murders Annie with the same axe that he used to kill Laurie Strode, his first victim in the "Halloween" films. Now, it is up to Annie's brother-in-law, Kevin, to save Andy from these maniacal killers. The couple's daughter, Kristen, is accidentally killed in the act. With the bodies, the police search for the killers - and find the axe.
